Position Objective:
To develop a comprehensive program of youth & children, ministry, education and activities. To provide pastoral leadership for the Students’ and Children’s programs, including strengthening parenting and families. Whether trained as a Youth Pastor/Christian Education Director/or Children’s Ministries Director; all will be considered.
Position Description:
1. The Associate Pastor will be responsible for developing and overseeing all programs for Students and Children. These include Sunday School, Children’s worship, mid-week and other recreational events, Vacation Bible School, mission trips and Christian camps. The Associate Pastor will develop and implement programs that strengthen parenting and encourage family unity in their Christian experience.
2. The Associate Pastor will aid in all worship service(s) and any special programs. Although the Senior Pastor is the actual “director” in terms of setting the theme and overall direction, the Associate Pastor will oversee and coordinate all the details that a service encompasses. The Associate Pastor must be skilled in leading people into the presence of God.
Qualifications:
1. A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing personal relationship with Him.
2. Trustworthiness and a commitment to moral purity.
3. A commitment to the beliefs, mission, vision, and worship philosophy of Troy First Baptist Church.
4. A commitment to leading the lost to Christ.
5. Demonstrated excellence in leading and bringing the congregation to worship in spirit and in truth.
Abilities:
1. The ability to establish and maintain a positive rapport with students, children and parents.
2. Requisite leadership, organization and management skills.
3. Musical ability is a plus but not required.
4. A heart for the spiritual formation of those in the congregation and the worship ministry.
5. Skilled in the use of technology in worship and in the use of sound, lighting, computers, Pro Presenter, and video projection would be considered a plus but not required.
6. A self-starter and a team player with a positive attitude.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop, implement and oversee all services, programs and events for students and children.
2. Develop a pastoral relationship with students and children.
3. Develop and conduct programs that strengthen parenting and family relationships.
4. Maintain an authentic and growing walk with Jesus Christ through the ongoing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, and fellowship.
5. Plan the corporate worship services of Troy First Baptist Church in consultation with the Senior Pastor and do so with prayer, forethought, theological and musical appropriateness.
6. Serve as the lead guide of worship in Sunday Morning church services.
7. Serve as a resource person and counselor to youth and children in their quest for spiritual growth and Christian Service.
8. Visitation as directed by the Senior Pastor.
9. Develop and implement church programs as directed by Senior Pastor.
10. Develop an annual Youth Sunday which would include leading the Sunday Morning service and other activities (usher, music, announcements, prayer, etc….)
11. Organize and lead at least 2 youth retreats a year. (Example: Caswell)
12. Provide for and make arrangements for youth and children to be involved in mission projects during the year.
13. Be available for other various short-term youth and children’s activities (dramas, musicals, Carowinds, mall trips, puppetry)
14. Serve as director of VBS Vacation Bible School
15. Serve as Sunday School Director for the Youth Department
16. Submit an annual Youth Budget
17. Establish and maintain office hours with the Senior Pastor.
